How to Change a Tire.
May 18, 2016

What to do when you have a flat tire

Pull over to a safe spot.

the safest thing you can do for yourself when you hear and feel that your tire had popped is to immediately pull over. Be sure the area you have pulled over into is safe and out of the way of oncoming traffic.Make sure you are on a flat surface so your car jack can do it's job properly

Turn on your hazard lights.

After pulling over into an area that is out of the way of traffic you will need to turn on your hazard lights. if you are not sure how to do that simply look for the orange or red triangle and push that button. your front and rear lights will be flashing on and off as soon as you push it. After you have turned on your hazards you will want to get out the spare tire, jack and wrench and bring them over to the flat tire.

Use the wrench to loosen the lug nuts.

you may or may not have to remove a hubcap depending on the type of vechical you have. Do not remove the lug nuts off of the wheel just yeat, instead simply loosen them. you can do this by turning the wrench to the left or counter-clockwise. if the lug nuts are tight you can stand on the wrench or hit it with a large rock.

Use the jack to lift the vehicle up.

Different cars have different places for where the jack will need to go, be sure to check your owners manual for where the proper placing is. After you have set the jack in the proper position gradually raise your vechical about six inches from the ground.

Remove the lug nuts and pull the tire off.

now that you have the car jacked off the ground your next step will be to remove the lug nuts. Finish unscrewing them going left or counter clockwise and place them in a pile on the groumd where they will not get lost. if you have a hub cap you can simple flip it over and place the lug nuts inside there. you will need to pull the tire straight towards you to remove it from the wheel base.

Place the spare tire on the car.

Lineine up the lug nut posts with the spare tire and push it as far back onto the wheel base till it will not go an further.

Put the lug nuts back on and lower your car.

after you have put the spare on put the lug nuts on by finger tighten them, and very gently lower your car back down.

Make sure the lug nuts are as tight as possible.

Finally you will want to tighten the lug nuts the rest of the way. but rather than tighten them all the way start with one lug nut and tighten it 50% of the way and then do the lug nut directly opposite of it. the best way is to do it in a star pattern. Continue to do this till all the lug nuts are competently tighten. Be sure to put all your tools and your flat tire in your trunk."
